FORBIDDEN FRUIT Exhibition | Curators - Qin Yan, Ou Yanshan and Yiy Zhang
August 29th 2025
Transforms Berlin Houseboat into Immersive Art Experience
The FORBIDDEN FRUIT exhibition opened on August 29, 2025, aboard the floating gallery SaltyAcid Space on Berlin’s Spree, turning a houseboat into a dynamic site for art, performance, and sonic experimentation. Curated by Qin Yan with visual design by Ou Yanshan, the show featured 17 Berlin-based artists—Carsten Becker, Vasil Berela, Kurt von Bley, Jacopo Dal Bello, Miriam Döhring, Robert Gschwantner, Yun Kima, Lilia Kovka, Justina Los, Anna Mészáros, Anna Nezhnaya, Ou Yanshan, Seongwon Park, Jakub Šimčik, and Yiy Zhang—alongside performances from Elana Katz and Samantha Bohatsch.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical symbol of forbidden fruit, the exhibition explored the human drive for knowledge and power, revealing how these impulses subtly reshape our values, desires, and everyday behaviors. The unique format transported audiences by boat to a venue that blurred the lines between gallery, studio, and survival space. Works addressed themes such as consumerism, technology, memory, and belief, all situated within a lived-in, watery environment.
The opening featured Berlin-based English sound artist David Harks, whose immersive installation merged marine life recordings, dubbed percussion, and ambient synthesis. Drawing on his recent experiments with sound collaging, Harks transformed the houseboat into a meditation on aquatic languages and spiritual resonance, highlighting ecological sounds to enhance the mood aboard Salty Acid.

EXHIBITION: EXPERIMENTAL IDENTITY CHINA
Synthesis & Birds
‘It is an amalgamation of nature combined with melodic elevation and functional simplicity using analog tools, recordings, and bird voicings. Utilizing the currently exhibiting architectural artists' references, this performance will drift sweetly into the divine languages of digitally dubbed autochthonal feathered inhabitants from China and Great Britain. Secretive, poetic, occult, spiritual, earthly, or heavenly? Bird song has long been the basis of constructed languages created by humans..long may that continue’
